“Every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better.” Dylan Wiliam
In line with our College practice of setting, working on and reflecting on professional growth goals each school semester, I have set my own goals for Semester 1 2017 as follows:
- Facilitating the use of thinking routines in the classroom in order to make student thinking visible.
- Teaching students to use strategies to improve general and subject-specific literacy.
- Increasing the use of active learning strategies in order to facilitate greater student motivation and metacognition.
I am particularly excited to work on these goals, given I have just come back to teaching after a year away from school. Being back at school and seeing the students, the College, the school system and myself as a teacher with ‘fresh eyes’ has been illuminating. Hopefully I can bring some of these new insights into my teacher growth and development this semester.
